Mirror, Mirror on the…Nightstand?

by Lindsay on July 27, 2009

All it takes for me is to see one photo in a magazine of something I like, and then I’m totally hooked. Like ridiculously, over-the-top, can’t focus on anything other than obsessing about it hooked. It’s a wonder I ever get anything useful accomplished.

My most recent obsession comes in the form of mirrored furniture. Now, before you think “Ick!” and click away from this post, let me fill you in on what I’m talking about. I’m not talking mirrored headboards and that weird 1980′s Yuppie stuff, people! I’m talking about the divine styles that mirror the age of Greta Garbo and Humphrey Bogart. Classic. Glamorous.
And ridiculously expensive. If you have about $600 for a nightstand in your budget, Horchow is ready to make it happen.
The thing is, mirrored furniture doesn’t have to be done in a boom-chicka-bow-wow type of style. Mixing one or two pieces in a traditionally styled room can really add some excitement to your decor.
Pottery Barn masters this look.
The above is Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott’s master bedroom, which is now my inspiration for my bedroom. It’s funny how this has been the exact direction I’ve been heading in that room even before seeing this photo. Thanks, Apartment Therapy!

I expressed my undying love of mirrored nightstands and dressers to my friend Darcy, and her comment was, “I’m not sure how I feel about that.” Yeah, I get it. It’s a little over the top, but I think it can be done very tastefully without being garish. What do you think?

Even if the mirrored dressers and nightstands aren’t your thing, you can still add a bit of sparkle by adding a mirrored top to a plain end table.

At this point, you’ve got to know where I’m headed, right? I mean, I don’t have a spare $1,200 just lying around, but I MUST have mirrored nightstands and I am armed with a glue gun. Oh my. Stay tuned…

I’m adding this post to Julia’s Hooked On Houses “Hooked On” party. I’m definitely hooked on mirrored furniture!

I love Tori and Dean's Master Bedroom too! Have you looked at the Borghese Collection at Z Gallerie? Their pieces are beautiful and I'm guessing a little more cost friendly than Horchow. But, if you come up with something with your glue gun, I can't wait to see it!

They are so very pretty and chic but also never satisfactorily clean for my taste…

Can't wait to see where this takes you. :) Had to laugh at the "boom chicka bow wow" reference. The Pottery Barn and Martha Stewart Living photos are my faves. :)

Love the pottery barn room – gorgeous – this look sadly will have to wait until the little ones have left the nest – I can just imagine all the itty bitty fingerprints – eek!!!

I so agree that some of the mirrored furniture is just gorgeous, not over the top at all. I can't wait to see what you come up with. Hugs, Marty

I think those pieces are beautiful. On some blog somewhere (I could never find it again…) I saw a vintage vanity spray painted silver! With mirrors it looked very much like the super pricey mirrored furniture and it cost almost nothing.

I've got a mirrored desk in my bedroom that I'm IN LOVE with…and ya know what, it DIDN'T cost an arm and a leg. Guess where I got it…the JCPENNEY CATALOG!!! And Pier 1 has mirrored bedroom furniture for a great price, too! Even nightstands that look similar to PB…check it out!

You are so funny! I love the way you put things.

I'm with you: I think just a touch of mirrored furniture looks very elegant. And I have no doubt that you, armed with your glue gun and your imagination, can come up with something spectacular.

I wrote a post today about my laundry room makeover, and there is where you will find the baby sisters to your beautiful birdcage. The little ones are not elegant like yours, but they are fun.

Have a great day. Don't break any mirrors!

I agreed with Darcy at first, "hmmmm, not sure what I think about that." Then, I looked at the light blue comforter and mirrored nightstands in Tori Spelling's bedroom and I think it looks fantabulous! I just wonder about fingerprints and if I'd spend my day wiping it down. It is a beautiful bedroom though. Good luck and can't wait to see what you do.

You and I are mirrored decor sisters. I have an entire file of just mirrored furniture ! I love it. I am trying to make a console right now out of an old coffee table… painting it white and giving it a mirrored top. For my master, of course ! Thanks for all the lovely pics, and for making me feel not so alone in my mirrored furniture obsession. :-)

I'm still not sure how I feel about that, but the pictures are much more subdued than I was originally picturing. Prove me wrong, Linds!

Pier 1 has a mirrored nightstand and dresser that I wanted REALLY bad for my teens' room BUT I couldn't afford even their "cheaper" price of a couple hundred per piece. sigh. Love your pics though- great inspiration.

I was hanging onto every word of this post. I've been trying to figure out how to mirror some tables for a few weeks now, but I could only come up with a mirrored top. I can't wait to see what you have to say (or do) about it! I'm totally on board with this!

How fun! Remindes me of the mirrored mini-fridge in our custom van with the blue shag rug when I was a kid (lol). Seriously, I love a little bling! Now, about fingerprints…

I love your website! So posh and girly! I'm a big fan of Mirrored Furniture. I donated some mirrored furniture pieces from my boutique to Extreme Makeover Home Edition 7th season. A mirrored vanity and nightstand went to a new bedroom for a very deserving family. They won't tell me anything about the family or provide me with pictures until after the show airs. I'll be sure to share pictures once I get them. I saw a mirrored fireplace in a magazine a few weeks ago that was just stunning. Kelly Wells

Hi! Just found you're very amusing site. I am in the UK and recently bought some very well priced mirrored bedroom furniture from a website called Out There Interiors. Unfortunately my (stupid!!!) husband hit one of the bedside tables on his way up the stairs and now I have a crack in the top of one.
I am DESPERATE to get this fixed without having to buy another. Not sure how old your blog post is, but if you had any joy with I'd really love to hear it!!
For your info, I've linked to the Mirrored Furniture page on Out There Interiors – not sure if they deliver to the USA, but it might be worth asking?!!
Thanks in advance
Tracy

The Horchow nightstand looks stunning. Even at that price it’s a MUST have. I’m totally addicted to mirrored furniture and just love the effect they have in the room, especially the bedroom. It’s actually a lot easier than you thinnk to get a similar result with pre-cut glass panels and some glue.
