No apologies

Posted in: Your Home, Your Way

I am over winter. I am finished. Done. No more. Of course, it helps that it’s already in the 60s and 70s here in beautiful Austin, Texas. Regardless, I declare it Spring in my home, and I am making no apologies for it.

Yep, those are birds’ nests, starfish, and seashells in January. I love them, so I decided it was time for them to make an appearance in the refreshed vignette on my antique English sideboard. Shouldn’t we always display the things that we love?

(Psst! Did you notice that my Pottery Barn knock-off mirror has finally found a home? Hooray!
)

My Springtime-in-January vignette is made from pieces that I disassembled from past projects. I added a starfish to my large apothecary jar filled with family photos from my husband’s grandmother’s estate and faux antique photos printed from the Internet.

In a few glasses, I added some more seashells from this project and a vintage monogrammed dishtowel my Mother-in-law gave me for my birthday last year – it actually came from her Mother-in-law. I leaned a few starfish against the mirrored topper of the sideboard.

A tarnished silver bucket I picked up a while back from my favorite local antique store is filled with some Dollar Tree Spanish moss, a bird’s nest, my son’s silver baby cup, and my husband’s silver baby spoon. Random? Absolutely. Lovely? Yes!

The large ‘B’ was taken from my fall wreath that I disassembled when the Christmas wreath moved to the front door back in December.

I added a few old doorknobs from the ReStore and a handful of antique keys I picked up at the fun vintage and antique show shopping trip to one of my smaller jars.

Another small jar holds some more shells and a starfish, and a third holds some quail eggs nestled into a Dollar Tree Spanish moss “nest.” Do y’all remember my story about trying to blow my own quail eggs? Yuck! I still get the heebee jeebees thinking about it.

A couple of candles, my jars and the silver bucket stand on top of the burlap table runner that I originally created for my dining room table. It’s a little long for the sideboard, but I still love it here anyway.

Did I jump the gun or are you ready for winter to be over, too?

I am SO with you on this! I don't care if it snows tomorrow and if the temps stay in the teens! I have switched out to spring decor with the exceptions of dragging out the bunnies and foo fah that I use for Easter. That will be my next change up. Come on spring!!

I love your sideboard. I need one. Bad. So classic. Obviously you have brilliant taste! ;p

No apologies necessary! LOL It all looks so "refreshing". Still clinging to winter (snowflakes and hearts!) here – at least until mid-February. We're barely getting out of the 40's. By that time, I will more than ready to switch gears to Spring!

I love the vignette you've created in the silver bucket. Thanks for the inspiration.

We've had a remarkably mild winter here in Southern Ontario, but I'm ready for it to be over. It's so dull and drab, we had a green Christmas and snow after. Now it's all melted and we're expecting more again at the end of the week. I'd far rather sunshine, 60s-70s sounds ideal. LOVE your display!

Girl, I'm in Michigan. I was ready for winter to be over back in November. ;)
LOVE the photos in the apothecary jar. Now I know just what to do with my large one that's been sitting empty since I took the antique glass Christmas ornaments out of it!

I am ABSOLUTELY over winter and ready for it to be spring again! You're lucky you're in Texas–here in Ohio it's still cold and wet and we can expect it to stay that way for another few months.

I love the contrast of the burlap with the elegant furniture and silvers. Looks great.

I think I can smell the beach with all those shells! So not what I want to hear. I am in Iowa and its snowing AGAIN and we are having freezing blowing snow!

No apologies needed. I am more than over winter and in PA it's freezing…and will be for a good 2 more months. I too am busting out the birds nests and sea shells :) . Your buffet looks perfect!

I'm ready for winter to be over too! Today's temps are mild (mid 50's) and it makes me want to get a couple outdoor projects underway.

It is all lovely. I truly believe that ours homes should be the way WE love them any time of the year, regardless of what we "should" do.

There are no signs of winter in my house either.

Enjoy your week!

It's your sanctuary so go for it! Unfortunately, I don't think Mother Nature is done with winter yet.
All I know is… we surely don't have to worry about a drought this year in Atlanta!

I admit there is nothing delightful about having dead plants all over the yard and no green grass. But I still enjoy the winter…gives me plenty of time to come up with ideas for spring and summer. We should all enjoy it and let winter run it's course. Because come September (right before the holiday frenzy is here) we will wish we had alot of quiet time like we are having right now.

It's not that I'm "over" winter necessarily, it's just hard to get into the "winter spirit" when it hasn't been very cold.

My house looks SO boring without my Christmas decorations. It feels like some of my stuff disappeared when I put it away at Christmas. So I'm trying to do some V-Day stuff. After that, I'll be over winter for sure!

its still WAAAAY too cold here in Northeastern Utah, so I better wait a month or so before my spring items make an appearance.. i think my husband would check my temperature or something lol..

Gorgeous display! And I love that piece of furniture. : ) Being in Orlando, our two weeks of "cold" in the beginning of January was more than enough cold for the year for us, too. Yay to the warm months, and here's to them coming faster! ha. : )

You did NOT jump the gun. I usually declare it Spring right after Christmas…I think I have been rather generous in waiting until now. We hve had 5 wind/rain storms in a row and another one is on its way. Enough already! Bring on the sunshine!

I am so thankful for Texas "winters" as well, so it's good that our winters are basically springish. I might have to start decorating for Valentine's Day, in my family Valentines Day is a HUGE deal. Think teddy bears shipped in the mail and boxes and boxes of candy. Bigger than your birthday sometimes.

I have said it before and I will say it again… I WANT YOUR HOUSE! :-) My house is just simply not a showplace. It is your typical southern home that is chock full of little boys. :-) One day…. yes, one day I will be able to blog about the beauty in mine, too. LOL!

I think it is wonderful for you to bring Spring into your home already! :-)

I don't blame you one bit. My sis is in San Antonio, and she said it was 78 last week! We have a bit of Spring here in Virginia today (47/48), but I think it's supposed to go back to bitter cold too.

I don't mind Winter for a bit longer. B/c as soon as I get Spring up, I'll be ready to Summer, then Fall, etc. ;) Plus, Spring/Summer means I'll have to show more of my pasty white skin, and that's just not kind to anyone.

I'm in Austin too! I much prefer this weather to a few weeks back, but I can't call it spring just yet because I'm still sick. Love that mixture of doorknobs and keys! It's like a spiffier, organized piece of Uncommon Objects.

I'm with you on wishing winter was over. In fact, when I took down the Christmas decorations, I started using my "spring green" and off-white candles and dishes. It just felt right and we've been enjoying it. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone!

I'm actually thinking it's time to take my winter wreath off the front door, since it's white with a blue ribbon, it just LOOKS cold. And it is cold here. In CA. Who knew?! BUT, inside, it's warm, and I'm breaking out the colors too. I say go for it! I've got my little milkglass/spanish moss/birdie display sitting right next to me in my new craft room. yep, totally, you should ditch winter!
