Teach Me Tuesday

Welcome to Teach Me Tuesday! I spend a lot of time each week reading all of the great DIY tips out there in Blogland. Because there are so many fabulous projects that I can’t wait to try, I figured that it would be fun to feature some of my very favorites here each Tuesday.

If you would like your home decor tutorial to be featured in an upcoming edition of Teach Me Tuesday, please email me at LivingWithLindsay@gmail.com and we’ll chat!

Today’s Teach Me Tuesday comes from Angie at Country Chic Cottage.  When I saw her sheet music balls on her blog a while back, I ran out and bought the supplies to make them that day!  You are going to love these.  Of course, being that I suffer from an extreme case of DADD, I haven’t actually gotten around to making them yet, but I promise to soon!

Angie explains:

I just loved the ball that I saw on Organize and Decorate Everything.  So I decided to try one with sheet music.

Yep I am “balling” in love!  So here is what ya need to make one of your very own.  Some sheet music and styrofoam ball.  Break out that trusty glue gun and get to work!

I tore my sheet music into 1 1/2″ by 1 1/2″ squares.  I liked the torn look to the edges.  I just used a straight edge to help me rip a stack of sheet music.

I then wrapped the squares around a “stuffer” tool.  Okay you can use a pencil just thought since I had a free stuffer tool I would put it to use.  I used a little hot glue on the tip and stuck the square to the ball.  For me, hot glue was easier and faster.

Just keep repeating until your ball is full.  It really did not take as long as I expected and I love the result.

Isn’t that fun?  If you can’t find sheet music, old books would work.  I could also see colorful tissue paper, scrapbook paper, magazine pages, or wrapping paper being used.  What would you use?

Thanks for the great project, Angie!

Very nice, I was trying to think of a way to add texture to some plain balls. This is perfect.

Cute! I wonder if a cut up sewing pattern would be too delicate?

I got a vintage hymnal at the local thrift store. It was “yellowing” with age. If you take a new one and tea dye it would probably look good too! :)
And thanks Lindsay for the post! :)

Many years ago I made wreaths using this same idea. We cut the fabric into squares using pinking shears and stuffed them into wreath circle forms. I remember making one for myself, my grandparents and many others that coordinated with our decor at the time. They were so rufflie looking and pretty. We also placed a big bow on them. I guess its coming back around in a more crisp updated look.

What a cute idea! I love old sheet music. Have you seen the dresser at Mustard Seed Creations? It’s amazing! Come by my blog…I’m doing a $100 giveaway.

How beautiful! Wouldn’t this be pretty with children’s book illustrations? Or old comics from the newspaper? So many different things you could do with this. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for possibilities on my next thrift store outing!
